Following the fortunes of Jack Muldoon, Venture and Venus spins a tale of love, tragedy and intrigue. We witness the the exploits of a young Irish army officer, whose youthful exuberance and love of adventure draws him into all sorts of improbable scenarios.

The characters Jack meets are central to the story and are each unique in a number of ways. Leni Riefenstahl, film director for Hitler's 1936 Berlin Olympics; Father Louis, Jack's ski partner who becomes romantically involved with American Avis because she believes in ' Eternity'; African photographer Fleurabelle, who yearns to see the world.

Jack's travels start in the Curragh of Kildare. He works as a 'piestenhelfer' in the Austrian Tyrol, dips his toe into film acting in Elstree Studios London, and spends a dramatic military term with the United Nations in the Belgian Congo.

What They Said About This Book:

“In his thrilling novel Mick Mc Donough creates an exciting but accurate account of skiing in the 50s in St Anton Am Arlberg and links the ski story expertly to life with the United Nations in the ex Belgian Congo. No mean feat - but Mick achieves the connection expertly! I recommend Venture and Venus unreservedly.” - Ian Mc Garry, Ski adventurer and past President of the Association of Ski Instructors.

"I recommend this book - its a damn good read! I was transported back to the Congo by this compelling recreation of a historic and exciting time in our young lives!" - Enda Ryan, ex Army Officer and Congo Veteran.
