A collection of poems from the sixteenth to the twenty-first centuries, celebrating poetry that rhymes.
As the editor of this volume, Tom Fewer explains:
Some say that rhyming verse is more difficult to write, others say rhyming verse is unnecessary, and the poet can get his message across without it. But for me, and for many others, good rhyming verse can be wonderful, and can give a thrill to the reader which relates to music, whether it is sad or joyous.
The book is divided into two parts. Part one re-acquaints us with rhyming verse from times gone by. The poets of yesteryear who's work is referenced include Shakespeare, Spenser, Betjeman. Oliver St. John Gogarty.
The second part brings together a collection of rhyming poems from modern times, mainly by Waterford poets "but also by those who, though far away, have had some association with the city or county of Waterford."
This book will appeal across all ages; indeed the one of the contributors, Aifric O'Donnell was a mere eight years old, when she composed Hallowe'en, which takes it's place as the second last entry in the book.
It is a book for everyone who appreciates the medium of rhyming poetry is all that's required. 'The main thing is; write, rhyme and enjoy!'
